Learning Theme: The Business of Staying in Business

Students explore and experience the power of opportunities and careers on the Coast to build and grow a business when being Digitally Aware. 

Introduction

As part of the Learning Theme: The Business of Staying in Business, students will explore Digital Presence as a core capability—an essential area that contributes to the long-term success and resilience of any business.

This lesson sequence also encourages entrepreneurial thinking, giving students the opportunity to apply digital-first strategies to their own business ideas or to support the growth of a local business.

Summary - Digtial Presence

In today’s digital world, a strong online presence is essential for business success. In this lesson, students will explore the importance of digital activation, including branding, websites, social media, e-commerce, and online customer engagement. Through real-world case studies and local business insights, students will analyse how businesses on the Central Coast can leverage digital tools to reach customers, grow, and remain competitive.

Students will assess and critique existing digital strategies, then develop their own digital activation campaign for a local business, personal brand, or startup concept.

      • Explainer Videos on digital marketing fundamentals (provided by industry partners).

    • Potential Industry Engagement: Video conference calls, guest speakers, business consultations.

Lesson Sequence

  • Context – Short video/lesson introducing Talk Agency and the role of digital presence in modern business success.
  • Challenge – Students select a local business, personal brand, or startup idea and explore how it could improve an aspect of its digital presence.
  • Investigation – Students research and assess digital marketing trends, tools, and strategies.
  • Generalisation – Students create and present a digital activation plan (e.g., website mock-up, social media campaign, content strategy).
  • Reflection – Students connect their learning to career pathways in digital marketing, business, and entrepreneurship.

Suggested Syllabus/KLA Alignment

  • Business/Commerce – Marketing, branding, and digital engagement.
  • HSIE – Economic and social impact of digital business transformation.
  • Technology – Website design, content creation, and digital analytics.
  • English – Developing persuasive and engaging online content.

  • Lesson sequences to be piloted in Term 2 & Term 3
  • Register your interest to pilot this resource in your class in Term 2/3
  • Full Resources will be made available for use from Term 4, 2025. PL will be offered in Term 2.

The project’s central hub has been named Central Coast Education Networks.
